Strixel Art!(Street + Pixel)

Sunday, April 27, 2008

This. Is. Awesome. This picture was taken in New York's east village and it's all the rage on the blogosphere right now, but I am now coining the term Strixel Art.....that's right Strixel art. Hopefully more of this stuff shows up!

NFL Draft 08

Ahhhhh smell it! Football season is upon us!!! I love it. As You may know the Draft just ended today and even right now most teams are scrambling to sign undrafted rookies as free agents. Throughout this week you can look forward to me posting a team by team analysis of how each team did in my opinion as well as just some general stuff that jumped to me. Still though I just need to get some things off my head...so here's some little nuggets haha.

  • 8!! That's the number of offensive linemen taken in the first round! 8! Definitely some reaches there.
  • Kansas City FTW!!! Seriously these guys had a pretty awesome draft, Miami as well but not as much as the Chiefs.
  • No WRs in the first round...yup, I guess it really says alot about these bunch of guys. I dunno, It's kinda weird that Alabama's DJ Hall didn't get drafted, I think he should have gotten drafted based solely on this Prothro like catch. Original Prothro Catch here
  • Guess who DID get drafted?? My boy Haruki Nakamura of Cincinnati!! That's right he went to the Ravens as the second to last pick of the 6th round. I don't like who he went with (Bengals fan here) but I do like that he got drafted and has a chance to show what he's made of.
  • Joe Flacco in the First round?!?! Brian Brohm to Green Bay?! What's going on here, a pair of horrible picks...Flacco in the first is a HUGE reach, and Brohm to Green Bay just really has to mess with Rodgers' mind. Also Andre Woodson, Colt Brennan, Erik Ainge and John David Booty did infact get drafted, in the 6th and 5th. The only QB pick I like is Chad Henne in the second to Miami, also San Diego State's Kevin O'Connell to NE in the 3rd.

So there we go, expect alot more analysis this week!!

Kanye West's Shoes Sources

Friday, April 25, 2008

A couple of days ago I posted an image of Kanye's shoes from the Glow in the Dark Tour. Now this picture shows from where Kanye could have gotten some of his inspiration from. You know the more I see these shoes the more I like them, sure they have a useless purely aesthetic strap but I think they'd looks pretty sweet on me. Hopefully Nike releases these bad boys soon, I'm guessing somewhere around 200 dollars.

New Nas song!!

From his forthcoming album, It's posted on Kanye's blog but I don't really think It's a Kanye beat, doesn't have that soul! The song's called "Be a nigger too" It's pretty good, can't wait for this album to drop!

Download the song here. So What's your take on Nas's new project? Is the title just a gimmick or is he truly trying to get something through to everyone. Upon listening to this song I kinda get the feeling that Nas IS trying to be deep but trying something and actually achieving it are two different things. The flow on this song is ok, the beat is pretty good, the lyrics are superficially deep. It seems as if though Nas is trying to rid the word of its strong negative connotation by telling everyone that they too are "niggas" in the chorus. Overall it's an ok song, I really hope the beats are stronger in the rest of the album and that Nas doesn't try to drill his point in and actually has some fun so we can hear some good stuff, and I quote Nas when he says "Nas what the fans want is Illmatic, Stillmatic" So go on and deliver so you can retake the throne as the top MC in the game.

One of the Greatest commericals ever

I saw this bad boy while I was watching the Suns vs Spurs game on saturday and it just blew me away!...I dunno why but Jordan always has awesome commercials.

Of Course!!! Why Didn't I see it before?!

Aliza Shvarts Clarification

Seems all the commotion caused Yale's PR office to release the following statements:

Ms. Shvarts is engaged in performance art. Her art project includes visual representations, a press release and other narrative materials. She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages. The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body.

She is an artist and has the right to express herself through performance art.

Had these acts been real, they would have violated basic ethical standards and raised serious mental and physical health concerns.

Whew, well atleast that's good to know.
Source: http://www.yale.edu/opa/

What a disturbing apalling act...(Aliza Shvarts)

Aliza Shvarts a senior art student at Yale artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages for her senior art project. Seriously...what's this girl's malfunction? The Huffington post goes on to say more about her nine month "art project".

she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process....

The display of Aliza Shvarts' project will feature a large cube suspended from the ceiling of a room in the gallery of Green Hall. Shvarts will wrap hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting around this cube; lined between layers of the sheeting will be the blood from Shvarts' self-induced miscarriages mixed with Vaseline in order to prevent the blood from drying and to extend the blood throughout the plastic sheeting.

Aliza Shvarts will then project recorded videos onto the four sides of the cube. These videos, captured on a VHS camcorder, will show her experiencing miscarriages in her bathrooom tub, she said. Similar videos will be projected onto the walls of the room.

...uh what?? Since when is snuff art? Honestly there is something utterly disgusting and insane about what this creature has done. What point is she trying to get across or what...seriously this isn't art. It's snuff. I bet she thinks the holocaust is equivalent to the mona lisa...something truly disgusting.

Message for Chad Johnson

I feel obligated as the only Bengals fan in West Texas and an ardent supporter of Ocho Cinco in the past to talk about this....

...You're an idiot Chad Johnson, seriously. You want a trade?! a trade? oooook, you say you want to go somewhere where you can win? Let me tell you something buddy, Cincy is the best chance you got. How many teams in the league have a quarterback that plays at the level Palmer does? I can think of two( it would be three but Favre is out) Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Neither of those guy's teams will have you because they really don't need you, plus they won't spend money on you. So let's look a tier below, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Tony Romo. The Saints might take you but they're worse off than the Bengals, the Giants are already loaded at receiver, and I really don't see the Cowboys spending so much just to get you. Sooo...Seattle and St. Louis...the Rams suck too so I don't see why you would want to go there, and I really don't see Seattle taking you.....so who would want you?

Chicago? Good luck trying to catch anything Rex Grossman touches. Atlanta? Joey Harrington ain't much better. Carolina? their whole offense sucks....The point is you have it pretty good at Cincy. An amazing quarterback, an offense-centric team, and a great guy to play alongside with, I'm talking about 84.

So go ahead and keep making a scene and demanding a trade, I hope you do get it...so you can see just how great you had it and your career comes to a screeching halt. Either way you won't be missed that much in Cincy, you know why? I got two letters followed by an obscenely long last name.

Way to go Memphis!!....no not really.

Monday, April 07, 2008

So, the championship game finished a while ago and I still can't believe what's happened. Honestly, you had the game in your hands Memphis, but you let it go. Now it's not fair to put the blame squarely on one thing or person, but I will. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Chris Douglas-Roberts
The 21 year old guard and true leader of the Memphis Tigers with an excerpt of the constitution tattooed on his right arm who could have ended the game in regulation if he had only made those two free throws. Honestly, here's a guy who just two days ago tore it up against UCLA and has been doing so all year but couldn't sink two shots to end the game. Way to choke buddy. You'll never get another shot to win a national championship.

Ok ok ok, so it's not fair to blame it all on him so let's blame it on that Derrick Rose three/two pointer. It was a beautiful shot by Memphis rumplestiltskin which gave the Tigers the lead, but because his left foot was infront of the three point line the stupid officials deemed it as a two pointer. You know what I think? I think it was those two white refs...the black one said it was a three, the other two said it wasn't...honestly, what do white people know about basketball?? Nothing that's what, so shut up Dick Vitale.

Still Derrick Rose didn't do crap until the second half, prior to the game starting they made a big deal about how he had the runs on sunday and wether he would play today or not. Let that be a lesson to everyone about the horrors of the "tex-mex" crap-for-food in San Antonio....it's gonna give you the runs, and you WILL lose the national championship due to the uncomfort and loss of speed which is caused by the quivery colon that comes as a side effect of mixing pineapple and red chiles with ground beef and chives or whatever the crap they serve in those restaurants along the riverwalk. Derrick Rose should have not eaten there and should have done what the rest of us do and just take pictures on the "Selena" bridge.

So in summary, Kansas sucks. Schools can only be good in either football or basketball not both of them. Who do these guys think they are? Florida? On the plus side their football coach IS the world's smartest walrus and Todd Reesing is from Texas so I guess it's not all bad....still what the crap does "Rock Chalk Jay-Hawk" mean??? Leave it to white people to come up with the lamest crap. In all I'm glad basketball season is finally over and we can move on to the truly important sport, Football! Would have been nice if C-USA took home the title though....guess that won't be happening, Ever.

This Just In: 60% of photographers are PIRATES!

Friday, March 28, 2008

So It seems that about 60% of all users that use Photoshop are using it illegally, atleast according to a survey by Epic Edits.
The chart on the right shows what percentage of the surveyed photographers used Photoshop, and the one on the right shows of that nearly 90 percent how many of those used it illegally. Frankly I'm not surprised and I'm sure Adobe isn't; when you're the top of the line it's only normal that there's gonna be a bunch of people out there that want to use you but can't afford to. If anything I'd expect that number to be higher.

see-thru laptops! + spring break update

see-thru laptops!, originally uploaded by kap4001.

This really cool picture makes my head hurt, haha

Soooo spring break pretty chill, nothing big just staying up late and sleeping in. It's pretty cool how it took less than a week to break the conditioning I had; by tuesday I was already waking up at 10 AM and going to sleep at 1 AM. I still need to clean my room and will probably do that later on tonight and tomorrow, on the plus side I did buy this cool little shelf thing to hold my DVDs.Note the trail mix on the adjacent shelf, and the two Dreamcasts on the floor...they were on the floor because I was cleaning them, ha. Also pay no attention to the sorting of the movies or lack thereof, because there is! They're by genres and by a little factor which I call the "RNMWC" or Rod Nunez Movie Watchability Constant" if anyone has an interest in the process behind calculating this constant please go ahead and contact me.

Anyway, this spring break has also been good when it comes to video games. For the first time in a looooong time I've been able to play for a bit, mostly Smash Bros which is pretty cool for the most part. I have a bit of a problem with subspace emissary, for one why? why do I need to do this? It seems like Sora was just trying to make this game more than what it is, it's a cool multiplayer centric chaotic brawler....and that's why it's big, don't do anymore with it. Still the little movies between chapters are pretty cool makes it almost worthwhile. So yeah, I've also been playing Patapon which is pretty simple and not as addicting as it was made out to be by some people but the little Patapon chants do get stuck in your head. On the DS front Advance Wars: Days of Ruin has been taking up most of my time, I'm stuck in one of the missions so screw it, I set it aside for a bit.

That's it for the mid spring break report, I'll be back soon I'm working on some more funny stuff for the blog, also check out the thingy on the right which will show you what I'm checking out on Google Reader....alright then see ya around.

NFL Prospect Haruki Nakamura

Haruki Nakamura was a safety from the University of Cincinnati and as you can see from the video above he's a pretty good tackler and coverage guy, and yes he is Japanese which is pretty crazy. Here's his stats from the Cincinnati Pro Day:

HT: 5’10.2”

WT: 203-pounds

Vert: 34.5”

Broad Jump: 10’

Bench Reps: 20

I'm not really sure what his 40 time is, but he looks fast enough, plus when a guy hits like that it's not that big of a deal, ha.

The part that freaks me out the most is seeing it on ice, reminded me of bambi. Also when they kick it and it doesn't fall down?! CRAZY. This thing can carry 340 lbs and I'm pretty sure it will be carrying some weapons...but more importantly, it could carry me! Beats the crap out of a horse anyday.

We've Been Had! The truth about Velociraptors!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

When I say "Velociraptor" what comes to mind? If you're anything like me the devilishly smart huge door-opening, t-rex fighting, huge lizards from Jurassic Park come to mind. You know what I'm talking about. these guys:
Well it turns out that's false! Now I always knew that maybe they didn't get it right and missed by a little bit, but it turns out they got it all wrong! Below I will show you what a real Velociraptor looks like:

As you can see Velociraptors had feathers! and wings, pretty awesome! They got the big claws right and everything, but yeah apparently velociraptors had feathers, as of 2007 paleontologists Alan Turner, Peter Makovicky, Mark Norell and colleagues reported the discovery of quill knobs on a well-preserved Velociraptor mongoliensis forearm from Mongolia, confirming the presence of feathers in this species. Now brace yourself cus here comes a big shock.....Velociraptors were tiny! small! smaller than a human by a lot! So not really scary. So there you go, the truth about velociraptors, go ahead and change that mental image. Not so scary at all anymore huh?

This post isn't all dissapointment though, Utahraptors are still awesome and scary, behold.

that's a pretty awesome looking bird/lizard right? Check out his size. That's what I'm talking about! I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Utahraptor is the best dinosaur ever!

Stanford Here I Come!

In a pretty awesome move by the president of Stanford he's announced that tuition will no longer be charged to student's whose family earns less than $100,000 a year, also student's who's family makes less than $60,000 a year will get free room and board. This is possible because it's endowment has grown 22 percent to 17.2 billion!...more info here....In short I will be applying to Stanford, haha.

Ok, well maybe not SUCK, but seriously these two guys really dissapointed in the senior bowl. Not just the game but the whole week they impressed no one and both of their stock dropped dramatically; now I'm not saying these guys are not gonna make it at the next level (because Woodson will.) but I'm saying that they really wasted an opportunity to show the scouts what they're all about. Guess they still have the combine though, hopefully they make a good showing because honestly, when you look as cool as these guys do, you gotta back it up with some skill.

Ask Madden! (Madden answer relationship questions)

Saturday, August 25, 2007

"Dear Mr. Madden,

My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving in together I'm afraid that it might be too soon. We've been together for 8 months what do you suggest?

Debbie Brewster, Toledo Ohio.”

You know a lot of times when you have a guy like Dre Bly you forget how good he is. A lot of guys say that a cornerback is just a receiver who can't catch, but lemme tell you that's just not true in the NFL. Here you have a guy who can run as fast as any receiver, can run the routes, is just as tough and rough, and he can hit ya. He could play on the other side if he wanted but no one's gonna move him from there because he's just too good when you throw the ball his way he’s gonna knock it down and the receiver can’t catch it when it’s on the ground.

”Mr. Madden,

I’m seeing this girl we; haven’t been intimate yet but my friends say that she’s been around if you know what I mean. What’s the most sensitive way to ask her to take an AIDS test?

D. Finch –Boise, Idaho.”

On the offensive line you got 5 basic guys. You have your Center, your Right Guard, your Left Guard, your Right Tackle, your Left Tackle. That’s it. Sometimes you have the Tight End in there but not really, it’s those 5 guys. Now these guys are the biggest guys on the field, there’s no one else out there bigger than them that makes them the biggest. If you want to move them you’re gonna have to come at them fast and hard which is why the defensive line guys are usually the second biggest guys there. Next comes the Linebackers and Tight ends, Receivers can be pretty big too, but it’s always the offensive line guys that are the biggest.

”Dear Madden,

I can never get my husband to put his dirty clothes in the hamper, it’s really annoying walking into the room and finding dirty stinky clothes scattered everywhere. I’ve already tried asking him nicely and moving the hamper somewhere in plain sight but nothing seems to work I’m desperate here!

Michelle A. –Gallup, New Mexico.”

There’s certain behavior that just can’t be accepted in the locker room. When you have a guy who’s being disruptive and rowdy it can just go against everything you as a coach are trying to do. Here’s what you do next time he does that. As he’s sleeping put a large piece of duct tape on his groin area and with a marker make sure to write “Clothes in hamper!” on it. When he wakes up, he’ll have to take it off, as soon he does--BOOM--you’ll have some torn off pubic hair and with any luck foreskin; he’ll never again forget to put his clothes in the hamper.

I saw a kid buy Black Knight

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

That's right, Black Knight. Martin Lawrence at his worst and yet this little boy not a day over seven years old stood in front of me in line at Circuit City happily awaiting his turn to get ringed up. At first I did not believe it. "What's this kid going?" I said to myself, "Where are his parents? This kid's not even black, wait...maybe he confused it for something else." Desperately I tried to think of what could possibly be mistaken for Black Knight. Nothing. Nothing came to mind....then suddenly an older man approached the kid accompanied by another kid about his age, "His dad's here" I thought with relief, "Surely he'll rectify this situation and throw this wretched DVD to the ground" but that never happened. The man simply looked at the kid, smiled then stood infront of him,the other kid just looked at his selection, and compared it to his own but showed no dissaproval of it. At that moment I knew that wasn't the kid's father, no any decent parent would ever allow their child to bring such a pox into their home.
At this point I got more and more desperate, "Somebody stop this! SOMEBODY! ANYBODY" I screamed inside. His turn came, he stepped up to the register, handed over his money and took his DVD with all the giddyness of a 7 year old boy who just got an awesome toy. I looked down in shame, it's times like these that heroes are made that regular men transcend and leave a legacy, years from now that kid would have become a man and as he watched Black Knight on some future version of TBS, he would have told his offspring, "You know son, when I was about your age I almost bought this thing, but a great man stopped me. I never knew his name or if he had one at all, but I think he was sent by God himself."
As he walked away the cashier told me "That's weird, that kid bought Black Knight" she said. As I raised my eyes I breathed in and finally said what I should have told that kid, what any decent man would, and what I will forever regret never telling him "He should have gotten Blue Streak."

The Putin Youth

Saturday, July 28, 2007

You may be asking yourself why I titled this entry as I did, well that's because This Article gives us a chilling look at something that's going on in Russia right now. Thousands of young people attend these camps and undergo some lessons, and physical fitness drills, and most disturbing of all are encouraged to procreate "for the glory of the motherland". Not only that but those who have gone through these camps show an increasing amount of racists and xenophobic views.

What I find to be the most disturbing thing of all though is the historical revisionism that's going on in Putin's Russia. Making Stalin look like a great leader who did more good than bad and who's "mistakes" can be overlooked. The article quotes Putin,

""Political repression was used to mobilise not only rank-and-file citizens but also the ruling elite," it says. In other words, Stalin wanted to make the country strong, so he may have been a bit harsh at times. At any time since the collapse of Soviet totalitarianism in the late 1980s, that would have seemed a nauseating whitewash. Now, it is treated as bald historical fact."

I don't know about you but that just sent chills down my spine. The fact that a whole generation is growing up learning that is just too much to handle. These views have also taken hold of many young people in Russia right now and in fact

"Terrifyingly, the revived Soviet view of history is now widely held in Russia. A poll this week of Russian teenagers showed that a majority believe that Stalin did more good things than bad."

Through historical revisionism and some very skewed vies on history itself the Russian government is drastically changing a whole generation's views on not only themselves but on the world, especially the Western countries.

"Problematic pages in our history exist," Mr Putin said last week. But: "we have less than some countries. And ours are not as terrible as those of some others." He compared the Great Terror of 1937, when 700,000 people were murdered in a purge by Stalin's secret police, to the atom bomb on Hiroshima.

The comparison is preposterous. A strong argument can be made that by ending the war quickly, the atom bombs saved countless lives.

Franklin D Roosevelt and Harry Truman-may have failed to realise that nuclear weapons would one day endanger humanity's survival. But, unlike Stalin, they were not genocidal maniacs.

As the new cold war deepens, Mr Putin echoes, consciously or unconsciously, the favourite weapon of Soviet propagandists in the last one.

Asked about Afghanistan, they would cite Vietnam. Castigated for the plight of Soviet Jews, they would complain with treacly sincerity about discrimination against American blacks. Every blot on the Soviet record was matched by something, real or imagined, that the West had done."

There is no doubt that Russia is a major player in world politics. It's close relationships with China only makes this scarier. Historical Revisionism is a terrible thing and one that not only plagues Russia. Not only is it wrong for a government to eliminate horrible things from its past but to change and skew it's history thus getting rid of the fundamentals and principles on which the country was based is also wrong which is something that more and more it seems the US is doing.

If you can check out that article back in the first paragraph, it's a really good read.

Hahaha, with that out of the way let us get to the matter at hand, what I've been up to.

I recently purchased a 360 with Gears of War, and I gotta say it's a nice looking game, I mean real nice, but not mindblowing. Aside from the graphics I really don't see anything that is outstanding about it, it all just seems like it's the same thing. Maybe the hype about it was too much and I was expecting a much greater game, I'm glad I didn't pay 60 bucks for it. Thankfully though I didn't buy a 360 for Gears of War but for the future games coming out for it such as, Assasin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4, BioShock, maybe Forza 2 and Mass Effect but most definetaly ACE COMBAT 6. I am so friggin' pumped for that game it's unbelievable.

Wow, this has the potential to be good. For one it's Jerry Bruckheimer, he made Pirates of the Caribbean. It also has the potential to suck after all it's Jerry Bruckheimer, he made King Arthur. Still could this possibly be the first good video game movie, I mean don't get me wrong Super Mario Bros and Bloodrayne were awesome....but wait...no they were about as good as getting your nads frozen until they became petrified and then getting them chopped off and fed to you. So hopefully this one is atleast decent...just please please please don't have Vin Diesel or Bow Wow or someone like that play The Prince.

Somebody Help Me.

I have a confession to make....
....I'm addicted to Gran Turismo 4. That's right, Gran Turismo, one of the game series' I've critizised the most.

It all started like this, for some reason I felt like playing a racing game, all of my racing games are on the Xbox and it, of course is broken. For about a week I kept fighting the urge to race, until finally on a trip to Best Buy I broke down and decided to get one...I went over to the Greatest Hits section and saw Gran Turismo 4 and Midnight Club 3. I already have Midnight Club 3, so of course I figured "eh, what the crap" and picked it up and went on my way home.

I popped it in and at first what I expected to happen happen. I was bored, I was frustrated, I turned that crap off......then turned it back on. I drove around my '83 Civic, very poorly and constantly finished last, I got frustrated and turned that crap off.....then turned it back on. I couldn't get it, I sucked at the game, my car is horrible but I couldn't stop playing. I even liked B-Spec mode which is pretty much just watching your car race.

I thought at first, "NAh I just don't have anything else to play" but then Winning Eleven came out...and I've played it for about 2 hours. I just keep popping Gran Turismo 4 back in. Finally, I've come to accept it...I like Gran Turismo, I suck at it...but I like it. There's just something very relaxing, almost entrhalling about driving a 95 Integra around Nurburgring over and over and over again.

I'll play other games...eventually, just lemme master these stupid license tests.

Editor: [laughs]
Homer: Well, what do you think?
Editor: This is a joke, right? I mean this is the stupidest thing
I've ever read!
Homer: What's wrong with it?
Editor: You keep using words like "Pasghetti" and "Momatoes" You
make numerous threatening references to the UN and at the
end you repeat the words "Screw Flanders" over and over

Dynasty Warriors

Why do these games sell?

...Honestly. What's going on here? There's like 5 million Dynasty Warriors games out there and each of them seem to sell pretty well, I mean they've kept KOEI afloat and now even a Gundam Dynasty Warriors is coming out. I really can't find the fun in these games, you have button mashing and then your running, and then button mashing, and then OH NO some Chinese Horseman Awesome General boss fight hit the X button 5 million times!!!! Not to mention the horribly bland graphics some of these games feature. Etc. etc. I just don't get it.

This however raises a valuable question, the concept behind dynasty warriors is awesome. Hundreds of enemies and you being the awesome field commander that tears it up and becomes a hero but in execution the game becomes dull and repetetive. How can this genre be fixed? A game which I think was a pretty good step in the right direction was Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders by Korean developers Phantagram.

This game features alot of the same gameplay as the Dynasty Warriors games do, meaning you have to press a button a whole lotta times KuF takes it a little bit further though and integrates a bit more of an RTS element to the game, throughout the game you also control squadrons of Enginneers, Cavalry, Zeppelins,Archers and other units you don't however control them directly but instead a mini-map showing the area pops up and you move them through there giving the game a bit more of a strategy element. One aspect which I particularly liked is when controlling your Archers if you have them shooting into the sun their accuracy will decrease which makes you think a little bit more before doing something. Another little thing that I particularly liked about this game was when moving your squads you can change how spread apart or close they are to each other, which becomes an important part of the gameplay because when being attacked by archers or cavalry it is better to be close together, but that slows you down, when controlling archers and you want to light up a forest it's better to be spread apart, or when controlling cavalry it's better to be spread apart. Such little aspects like this advance the genre in an interesting direction. KuF though, ultimately falls into the same pitfalls that huant Dynasty Warriors and it becomes repetetive.

Brawlers are repetetive, it's a fact. Just because they're repetetive though does not mean they have to be dull. I believe the problem comes from the control schemes of these games, perhaps a change in control scheme such as controlling individual sword slashing 1:1 with one of the joysticks, or other ideas that are not as stupid as this one might "fix" this genre which is honestly not in need of a fixin'(it's still selling well) just more of a reimagining or renaissance if you will. Another idea is implementing music more closesly into these games, imagine this....The level starts a simple background tune is playing, as you're beating endless waves of dudes, with each awesome kill you make a cool sound is created that complements the song, as your combos increase and uninterrupted kills go on the sound crescendos and gets more complex until in the end you've created an awesome symphony of death....In this way even though the action is repetetive the results are not and instead of just having the same ol' death animation playing throughout there's a better result which motivates the player to keep on going.

In the end maybe the brawler genre in this new era of 3D games will just continue on its way and developers will have the if it's not broke don't fix it policy...but hopefully this will not be the case and someone will come up with some new re-imagining of the genre.

The Future of Gaming (in 1981)

This is just pretty awesome, I dunno exactly what book or magazine this is from but it's pretty spot on. Handheld gaming, sport games, recreating wars, long distance multiplayer, and more than two players (MMORPGS) the only one that was a lil' bit off was the Gaming Cubicle but there are some pretty fancy arcade cabinets out there. I will now go on record and make a prediction about how games will be in 20 years....Smell will be an integral part of gaming, and games will receive low review ratings for not generating accurate smells, not only that but handheld games will be twice as powerful as consoles, Miyamoto will be cryogenicaly frozen. Nintendo will still be doomed, and Sony will release yet another failed storage medium while the newest iPod is the best selling gaming device.
